The Bride Is Taken: A Christian End-Times Thriller

Atomos · Book One · Coming soon

The Bride Is Taken, Atomos Book One, a Christian end-times thriller by Paul T. Barham: a full moon and an extinguished oil lamp against Fourth of July fireworks

In the twinkling of an eye, they were gone.

July 4, 2034. Fireworks bloom over a weary nation, and in a single flash of light, millions of people simply cease to exist. Babies vanish from their cribs. A copilot disappears at thirty thousand feet. The Vice President of the United States is gone from the President’s side on live television.

Josh Gibbons saw it happen. One moment the woman he was falling for turned to him with a question on her lips. The next, he was holding nothing at all.

The Bride is taken. The world is left behind. And the clock has started.

About the book

Within days of the disappearances, President Michael Vale gives a terrified world the answer it is desperate to believe: We are not alone. And only Vale, with tech visionary Silas Rook’s orbiting defense grid, can keep humanity safe.

But Josh, an aging engineer who walked away from God decades ago, has a childhood Bible on his nightstand, a voice he heard at midnight three months before, and a growing certainty that the greatest deception in history has only just begun.

The Bride Is Taken is the first novel in the Atomos trilogy, a pre-tribulation end-times thriller grounded in Scripture and told in four movements:

  • Part I, While the Bridegroom Tarried: a disputed election, a presidential assassination, and a war with Iran carry a soft-spoken Kansas independent from the Speaker’s chair to the Oval Office, while the satellite network Josh helped build begins to hide things even from him.
  • Part II, Trumpet and Thunder: on the Fourth of July, believers hear a trumpet and a shout. Everyone else hears thunder among the fireworks. Through a police officer’s body camera, a pilot’s empty cockpit, and a hospital’s silent nursery, the world discovers who is missing.
  • Part III, Strong Delusion: a government that has hidden the truth about “visitors” since the 1940s finally reveals what it wants the world to believe, and a covenant with Israel starts a seven-year clock.
  • Part IV, Death and Desecration: as two witnesses preach in Jerusalem, the man who promised “peace and safety” shows the world who he really is.

Told through multiple points of view and woven with realistic news reports, government records, and social media posts, The Bride Is Taken asks what the world would believe if the church were suddenly gone, and what one unlikely man would do once he finally believed the truth.

Definition of atomos, Greek for uncuttable or an instant too brief to divide, the word translated 'in a moment' in 1 Corinthians 15:52

What does Atomos mean?

Atomos (ἄτομος) is a Greek word meaning uncuttable or indivisible: an instant of time too brief to be divided. It is the root of the English word atom.

Paul uses it to describe the rapture: “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet” (1 Corinthians 15:52). The phrase “in a moment” is en atomō. The series takes its name from that instant.
